CASTELLAR DE LA FRONTERA
The sites at Cuevas del Cancho and Tajo and Abejera, show us that there have been settlements in Castellar dating back to the Bronze Age.
The town is divided into two parts: Castellar “El Nuevo” and the Viejo Pueblo de Castellar. The later is “white town” with clear signs of its Islamic past, including the Fortress. In Castellar Nuevo you can visit buildings such as the Church of the Divine Saviour and the Church of the Holy Christ of the Almoraima.
A LITTLE MORE CULTURE?
Pay a visit to the Castle of Castellar de la Frontera, the fortress in Castellar Viejo, in the heart of the “Los Alcornocales” Natural Park, located between the Guadarranque and Hozgarganta rivers. The spectacular views, enable you to see the Guadarranque reservoir and its forested slopes, as well as Gibraltar, the Straits of Gibraltar and on a clear day the Atlas mountains in Africa. As its name indicates, this 13th century Arab fortress was on a border, defending the Taifa kingdom of Algeciras. You can complete your day with a visit to the Almoraima Estate.

However, for some more active tourism, you can combine nature and culture, and opt for a 4X4 trip through the Almoraima Estate, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking trails etc.
