Visitors soon fall in love with Algeciras because of its beautiful architecture and picturesque streets. It is also an important port city full of history. You can take an interesting walk starting from the historical old town (the San Isidro District).
There are also interesting archaeological sites such as the Fish Salting Factory on the Calle San Nicolas which dates back to the first century and the Marinid Walls Archaeological Park, originating in the thirteenth century. Don’t miss the picture-postcard sights of the city such as the famous Plaza Alta, a local meeting point.
Culture lovers must not miss a visit to the Municipal Museum where there are often temporary exhibitions as well as a permanent one which covers the history of Algeciras. It is also the Museum of Sacred Art, housing interesting pieces of ceramic, gold and silver artefacts and paintings.
