The race follows a low points scoring system. So Team Brunel took one point today, Dongfeng two and Abu Dhabi three.

Before that, Abu Dhabi won the first leg in Cape Town and took one point, Dongfeng finished second and took two points, and Brunel was third and took three points.

Whether you’re good at arithmetic or not, the result is quite straightforward: all three teams now have four points.

It’s a three-way tie on overall leg points.

But according to the race rules, Team Brunel and Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing are ranked above Dongfeng Race Team because of victories each has already achieved.

And the Dutch guys get the highest placing because they have the most recent victory.

After this successive second super-tight finish, one thing is for sure: there’s all to play for with seven legs to go before the race finale in Gothenburg on June 27.

And if the in-port races don’t count towards the overall ranking, in-port results can still break a possible tie by the end of the race. That’s looking entirely possible…
