Throughout the weekend, Alcaidesa Marina was proud to sponsor and host a top-class fleet, bringing some of the leading crews in the J/80 class to our racecourse. The close competition, tactical skill and ability to adapt proved decisive in an event that remained unresolved until the final moments.
The winning team, which also benefited from the experience of renowned Olympic sailor Iker Martínez, maintained its focus and handled the pressure in the decisive races to secure a hard-fought and well-deserved victory.
Three days of competition and a title decided by the narrowest margin
The seven races tested the consistency of every team. Each start, manoeuvre and tactical decision played a crucial role in standings defined by the smallest of margins.
Embata 80 prevailed in a nail-biting finale against Península, helmed by John Bassadone, who finished second just one point behind the champion. Ebro Navea, led by Arturo Montes, completed a podium of outstanding competitive quality.
J/80 Spanish Cup podium
- Embata 80, helmed by Íñigo Jáuregui.
- Península, helmed by John Bassadone, just one point behind the winner.
- Ebro Navea, helmed by Arturo Montes.
The narrow gap between the leading positions reflects the demanding nature of this edition. Until the final race, the crews had to remain precise and read the conditions on the racecourse correctly to keep their title hopes alive.
Alcaidesa Marina, the setting for a top-class regatta
It was a genuine privilege to witness the talent, technique and adaptability of these crews at our facilities. The J/80 class once again delivered a magnificent sporting spectacle, with closely contested racing and constant excitement both on the water and ashore.
Hosting a competition of this calibre reinforces Alcaidesa Marina’s commitment to sailing and to organising nautical events that position La Línea de la Concepción and the Campo de Gibraltar as benchmark destinations for competitive sailing.
Our location, set in a strategic position between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, once again demonstrated its ability to host top-level events and offer sailors, teams and spectators a unique sporting experience.
Congratulations to the champions and the entire fleet
Everyone at Alcaidesa Marina congratulates Embata 80, Íñigo Jáuregui, Iker Martínez and their entire team on this victory. We also congratulate Península and Ebro Navea on completing the podium, as well as every participant for the exceptional standard shown throughout the three days.
Thank you to the organisers, the teams and everyone who contributed to the success of this J/80 Spanish Cup. We bring an unforgettable weekend to a close, filled with outstanding sailing and a championship decided with all the excitement it deserved.
