Last weekend saw the Andulucian Laser Class Championship being held within the Bay on the doorstep of Alcaidesa Marina. The event organized by the Royal La Linea Nautical Club & the Andalucian Sailing Federation also counted with the support of Novomag, the Port Authority, Asur Hotels, Coca Cola, the Local Authority Sports Council & Alcaidesa Marina. The event was attended by 78 participants from 14 clubs from Andalucia & Portugal.

The participating clubs were CM Almería, RCN Roquetas, CMN Benalmádena, CN de Sevilla, CM Puerto Sherry, CN Trocadero de Puerto Real, CANE Sanlúcar, CAND Chipiona CN Isla Canela de Ayamonte, CN Río Piedras de Cartaya, CN Fuengirola, CN Elcano, Associação naval do Guadiana & the Royal La Linea Nautical Club.

The winners of each of the categories were:

  • Standard1st Antonio Coronilla Soto of CN Trocadero, 2nd Javier Blanco (Rooster sailing/UCA/Okfit/Fidesalud) of CM Puerto Sherry & 3rd Miguel Mocada Sánchez of CM Puerto Sherry. The best placed local representative was the veteran Brian Brophy, who in his 60’s finished in 7th position.
  • Radial – 1st Sócrates Fernández, of CN El Trocadero , 2nd Natalia Ariza also of CN El Trocadero, & 3rd Raúl Sánchez of CN Sevilla, Adam Alcántara being the best placed local representative in 10th position.
  • Láser 4.7 –  1st Asier Torres of CM de Almería, 2nd Victoria Ortega also of CM Almeria, & 3rd José María Lara of the Royal La Linea Nautical Club.

The event proved to be a great success & Alcaidesa Marina is glad to continue supporting such events which one day may go on to produce an Olympic champion.
