Before GPS and electronic nautical charts revolutionized navigation, sailors depended on lighthouses on the coast for guidance.

This website allows you to see them without moving from home by using data from around the world to project the various lighthouses and marker buoys on an interactive map. The lights emitted by these constructions are actually light signals with a colour, frequency and pattern code that makes it possible to distinguish one from another.

The colour of the light emitted determines different messages such as white light, the usual red light that signals a dangerous sector where one should not navigate and green light that signals the entrance to a channel, port or shelter
